Self Love

If we look back in history, we’ll find 2000 years ago Greek philosopher Aristotle explained that in order to receive love, you must first love yourself.

Call it self-love, self-acceptance or healthy self-esteem but it all comes down to the same thing – you can’t give or receive “love” if you don’t first love and accept yourself.

How you love and care for yourself is the basic foundation for all other loving relationships. I truly believe that you can only give to others as much healthy and nurturing love as you can give to yourself. Healthy self-love and healthy relationships go hand-in-hand!

What is healthy love? It is:

  • Unselfish
  • Nurturing
  • Filled with natural give and take
  • Honest and pure
  • Unconditional

What is unhealthy love? It is:

  • Controlling
  • Abusive
  • Toxic
  • Selfish
  • Conditional with strings attached

Let me ask you this - when you look into the mirror first thing in the morning, can you honestly say that you love and accept yourself, just the way you are?

Self-love and acceptance is the healthiest success tool in the world. When you can give yourself unconditional love, you’re able to unconditionally share that love with others.

Here are two quotations that seem to say it all:

“You must love yourself before you love another. By accepting yourself and fully being what you are, your simple presence can make others happy.” Unknown

“If you aren’t good at loving yourself, you will have a difficult time loving anyone, since you’ll resent the time and energy you give another person that you aren’t even giving to yourself.” Barbara De Angelis

In my opinion, “I love you” are the most beautiful words you’ll ever hear! What do you think?
