Does It Make Me Smile

stone with smile etched into it
I’m choosing to smile more often! The older I get, the more I realize that life is short. With recent loses of friends my age and relatives who weren’t elderly, I realize life is too fragile not to fully appreciate and enjoy each positive wonderful day.

With that in mind, I have a revamped my philosophy about my life – I call it Does It Make Me Smile.

I’ve made the conscious choice to smile more often, laugh at even the silliest jokes and appreciate the natural beauty around me. Life’s too short to be sad, mad or ungrateful.
I’m vowing to do more things that make me smile!

Yes, I realize that life has its ups and downs but I also realize that I have the choice to either view those challenges positively or negatively – I have the ability to choose my mood. I’m going to smile, laugh and enjoy life more often!

Here are some ways I’m choosing to smile:

1. When I’m faced with a challenge, I will choose to look for the win-win solutions that will benefit not only myself but also others.

2. First thing each morning, I will visualize and affirm enjoying a happy, healthy and productive day. In my mind’s eye I see myself smiling, laughing and happy.

3. I will stop watching negative and argumentative television programs. I watch only those television programs that make me smile and reinforce living life to the fullest.

4. When someone shares thoughts, words or situations that are negative, I will refuse to be drawn into the negativity.

5. I realize that I control my thoughts! I will choose not to wallow in negativity. I will not allow negativity to drag down my attitude and mood.

6. I will choose my friends carefully – ones who also like to smile and laugh. My positive energy is now attracting other people who choose to smile and laugh.

7. When something negative or sad happens, I’ll face it head-on. I will acknowledge it, bless it, feel it and deal with it in positive and empowering ways.

8. Before I say “yes” to something, I will ask myself, “Is this going to make me smile?” If the answer is no, I won’t do it.

9. I will choose to work only with people who have a positive attitude. I will choose to go out socially only with those people who enjoy life. I will choose to read, watch and listen to only those things that are empowering and entertaining. I choose to spend my time grateful and not hateful.

10. Wouldn’t you agree that life is too short to be grouchy, sad and angry? Let me ask you this, how are you going to smile more often?

I’ll leave you with this thought from author and motivational speaker Og Mandino:
“Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out share, SMILE, hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.”
