Developing Future Leaders


Business’s explanation of leadership: Unlike management, leadership flows from the core of a personality and cannot be taught, although it may be learnt and may be enhanced through coaching or mentoring.

Here are some tips for developing future leaders:

ONE: Stick to the basics. It’s easier to gain self-confidence when you begin to feel as if you are doing those things that will take you forward in positive and productive ways.

TWO: Train and show, don’t just “tell” people what to do. Lead by example. The most effective leaders walk their talk. They have been there, done that and lead by first hand experience.

THREE: Help your leaders build unstoppable confidence in themselves. Sincerely give recognition and praise. The road to long-lasting success and unshakable self-confidence is paved with small day-to-day victories.

FOUR: Allow people to stumble and pull themselves back up. Support your future leaders so they may learn from their mistakes in a safe supportive environment.

FIVE: Praise your team often – become their most ardent and supportive cheerleader. Train them to do the same. I’m reminded of this quotation “What gets measured gets done; what gets recognized gets done even better.” Author Unknown

Leadership is built on self-confidence and self-confidence is built one successful step at a time.
